Types
Weld Neck vs. Slip On Flanges
Weld Neck Flange
Has a long tapered hub that is butt-welded to the pipe, so stress passes smoothly from flange to pipe instead of building up at the base. Specified for high pressure, high temperature and sub-zero service where a leak-free joint is critical.
VS
Slip On Flange
Slides over the pipe end and is fillet-welded inside and outside. Easier to align and cheaper to fit than a weld neck, it is widely used on low-pressure lines and general piping systems.
